Fourth Grade Curriculum

Fourth grade is a big adjustment for most children and parents. There is more independent work in class, including research and projects. All the skills learned in primary grades are now put to use. Instead of learning to read, the children are now reading to learn.

Subjects Taught:

  • Religion
  • Reading
  • Spelling
  • English
  • Writing
  • Math
  • Science
  • Social Studies

Technology is utilized throughout the school day with the use of the Smart Board. Neos are used in both 4th grade classrooms after the students have learned keyboarding skills in computer class. Keyboarding skills are practiced frequently on the Neos in the classroom to support what is being learned in computer class.

Grading:

Based upon daily work, tests, special projects and participation.

Discipline Policy:

The fourth grade provides rewards for those students who show a good sense of responsibility both in their work and their behavior. Weekly, a fourth grader is given a sticker on a reward bulletin board if there are no missing assignments or behavior forms for that week. Rewards are given for consistent positive behavior and no missing assignments. Rewards include stickers, homework rewards, spirit days, free time, special treats and breakfast club participation.

Students needing intervention with behavior are given several infractions before detentions are earned. Communication is made to parents prior to students earning detentions by PeaceBuilder Peace Treaties and assignment books.
